Last night I over heard Hen talking to Blue. I love hearing the way his voice changes into a really high, soft, gentle tone- it’s sweet… much like the way one would speak to a baby or small child.
Henry: "Oh Blue, you’re so cute! You look just like your Mommy"
In our family we refer to Blue and Ranger as kid’s brother and sister- this makes me their “Mommy”
Me: "Henry, what did you say?"
Henry: "Oh, I was just telling Blue how cute she is"
Me: "You said she looks like her Mom. DO you think she looks like me?"
Henry: "well, yeah…..I don’t know what it is….I think it’s your nose or something."
Henry: "I think it’s because I love you both so much, that’s why"
*Kids can be so darn cute sometimes
Even though it’s 10 degrees, my Cardinal is out and singing. Surely Spring is coming.
and all is right in the world………
Oh great, it’s Monday. I’ve enjoyed the past week off with the kids. We baked cookies, went sledding a few times, played basketball at the rec center, had dance parties, played twister, books, t.v…….. It was great. We slept in, felt relaxed- much needed.
But today was back to reality. Up at 5:30, making lunches, laying out clothes and driving one to school early and bribing the younger one to “GET ON THE BUS!!”
Through her tears she says, “Will you bake me a cake for when I get home?”
"Yes, love, I will"….. I told her all the special things she needs to hear to gain confidence and feel loved- "You are a golden treasure, full of rainbows and unicorns. You have glitter angel wings. YOU ARE AWESOME!" ……I wipe her tears, make eye contact with the bus driver and send her up the steep bus steps. My heart breaks as I drive to work.
I just pulled the cake out of the oven.
I’m grateful for so many things in my life, this man is at the top of my list.
