Hen’s school is holding a talent show this morning. He casually mentioned this one day last week- said he was going to try out for it. I asked him what he was planning to do for it? He said play piano and sing. “Sing? I said…sing? What will you sing?”
“Oh, I don’t know…..”
I cringed.
If you knew him in real life, he’s a pretty shy kid. He’s got a funny sense of humor & personality but making conversation sometimes is hard for him. He thinks its terrible that the principle knows his name- I tell him it’s because it’s such a good kid (and most likely because he was the only student to give him cookies at Christmas!)
It turns out he wrote a song about the school. 1 performance from each classroom - 14 kids from his class tried out and he won the spot.
I’m really proud of him.

Today in my tiny village there is an election. My father was involved politics for most of his life. He served as mayor for 20 years, undefeated. He loved politics but was never political. Growing up we never had a sign in our yard, he never mouthed off about his beliefs or opinions. He was fair, honest and listened- that’s what made people trust him. He was true.
Today would be the first election in 48 yrs that he will not cast a vote. This is a hot election- he would’ve been all over it.

I was given this today as a gift from a coworker. This year was the first year of working together- we immediately hit it off and have become good friends. She’s kind, quiet and a bit of an old soul. She’s the perfect friend- not high maintenance, not a head case. We share stories about life & raising children and laugh a lot. Today’s joke was, “thank God for clothes”
The card reads,

I have a lot of lovely people in my life, but this one person in particular is the tops.
